Wednesday, January 7, 2004 Transport America will sign a partnership agreement with the Indiana National Guard and Vincennes University for a Driver Training Apprenticeship Program. The program is the first of its kind, providing not only hands-on driver experience, but also education in the transportation and logistics field. The signing of the agreement will take place at 12:00pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at the Indiana National Guard State Headquarters (Stout Field) in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The partnership is a winning combination for everyone involved in the project. The Indiana National Guard has a need for quality truck drivers and Transport America is consistently looking for quality drivers to join the company¹s fleet. This project provides an opportunity for individuals to participate in a two-year apprenticeship program through Transport America and Vincennes University where they are trained on all aspects of driving, as well as online course work in transportation and logistics. After the two-year apprenticeship, individuals earn a two-year degree in Transportation Logistics. "This program will cover all realms of transportation training for new drivers to the industry," said Steve Sichterman, Director of Human Resources for Transport America. "Students in the program are not only learning the basics of how to back up a trailer, but they are also being educated on transportation and logistics."
