PRIME INC. HOSTS the MISSOURI DISTRICT SPECIAL OLYMPICS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Host the missouri special olympicsThe Missouri District Special Olympics Basketball Tournament took place in Springfield, Missouri on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at PRIME INC.’s basketball court and The Courts. Twenty-nine teams participated in the all day event. The winners of the competition will move on to the state competition in Blue Springs, Missouri in March.

PRIME INC., Missouri’s largest trucking company and North America’s largest refrigerated carrier, donated their basketball gym, volunteers and lunch for over 300 athletes during Saturday’s tournament. “Special Olympics officials had heard that we had a nice indoor- basketball court within our beautiful facility and just asked me if we would be interested in getting involved,” said Greg Helms, fitness and wellness director at PRIME. “We jumped at the chance.”

PRIME INC. is affiliated by common ownership with the Oasis Inn and Convention Center located in Springfield, Missouri. The convention center at the Oasis Inn was donated by PRIME to be used for the Special Olympics’ opening ceremony on Friday night, February 20, 2004. Group discounts were given to the organization’s athletes for a nice place to sleep and enjoy themselves for the weekend.

The Millennium Building, at the PRIME INC. headquarters in Springfield, MO, is unlike anything else in North America. It features an array of amenities and services intended to enhance the lives of PRIME’s in-house/driving associates and meet the needs of their families. As Greg Helms watched the three-on-three games from the sideline Saturday, he stated the he hopes to continue PRIME’s relationship with the Special Olympics. “There’s just a lot of positive energy from the folks that are here.” PRIME’s public relations coordinator, Clayton Brown added, “…it is great to see the competitive spirit come out in these athletes and the world-class opportunities that they get to participate in via the Special Olympics. We are extremely pleased to be able to be a small part of this wonderful experience for these athletes.”
