Bandag Golf Outing Benefits Trucker Buddy

Waupaca, WI: Trucker Buddy, an organization dedicated to helping educate and mentor schoolchildren via a pen pal relationship between professional truck drivers and school children has received a check for $5,180 from Bandag, Incorporated, following a couple of company events.

Every year Bandag sponsors the Alliance Business Conference for its large network of commercial tire dealers. This year the event was held in Marco Island, Florida.

Golf is always a part of the conference and for the past two years the dealers have had an opportunity to purchase two mulligans for $10. The $10 donations were given to Trucker Buddy. A total of $1190 was raised by the mulligan sales. Bandag, Inc. doubled matched this donation with another $1190 for the Trucker Buddy program.

Bandag sponsors a Fleet Executive Symposium prior to the Alliance Business Conference. A golf tournament is also a part of the Fleet Symposium. In an effort to raise more money for Trucker Buddy, Bandag designated hole #3 as the “beat the pro hole.” For every fleet executive whose drive was closer to the pin than the pro, Bandag donated $100 to Trucker Buddy. A total of $1400 was raised in the Fleet Symposium golf tournament. As fourteen golfers were able to “beat the pro” at the event. Again, Bandag, Inc, matched this contribution with their additional donation of $1400 for this fundraiser.

Combined with money raised by the Alliance Business Conference mulligan sales, Trucker Buddy benefited from Bandag, Inc.’s total contribution of $5,180.

Those dollars will be used to continue to support Trucker Buddy. The organization matches classes of students with professional truck drivers. Every week drivers share news about their travels with their class. Once a month, students write letters to their drivers. Students’ skills in reading, writing, geography, mathematics, social studies and history are enhanced and learning is fun. Since 1992, Trucker Buddy has helped educate over 500,000 schoolchildren and introduced them to caring, compassionate men and women, professional truck drivers.

Commenting on the donation, Bandag CEO, Martin Carver said, “A better understanding of the trucking industry is important to everyone. We are happy to see that Trucker Buddy is involved in educating schoolchildren at a very early age. On behalf of our dealers and fleet customers, we are pleased to make this donation to Trucker Buddy.”

Ellen Voie, Trucker Buddy’s Executive Director received the donation and offered her thanks for this type of fundraising event. “When sponsors such as Bandag, Inc. find fun and unique ways to get their dealers and suppliers involved in their support of our program, it makes the contribution even more significant.” Voie added, “Bandag Inc. has shown their dedication in making the Trucker Buddy program grow and to reach more children and more drivers who can benefit from the interaction.”
