Sitton Motor Lines Conducts Education Program at Elementary School

Pubic Safety Education Director Laszlo Laky and the Sitton Motor Lines “safety semi” rolled into Seneca, Mo. on January 25. A two-part program reached out to both Americorp teen volunteers and the elementary students of Seneca Elementary.

On the first day of the program, Laky worked with the teens. He used the “safety semi” to demonstrate the no zones of commercial trucks. Seatbelt safety and the dangers of alcohol were next on the agenda. Actual footage of alcohol-related accidents compiled by the Missouri Department of Transportation were used to show just how tragic teen alcohol use can be. Laky has seen the sobering impact this video has on teens. There is a special need for these sorts of programs, Laky says, as most schools no longer offer driver’s education classes.
Day two of the program focused on the elementary students. Video, coloring books and catch phrases like “train tracks are for trains not children” helped reach the younger audience. Laky says it is never too early to introduce safety awareness to children, so that safe driving concepts will be ingrained when they become adults.

Dick Sitton, 1966 graduate of Seneca High School and President of Sitton Motor Lines, says, “We have done a lot of positive things within the company—reducing accidents, reducing claims and improving the quality of our drivers. The next logical step was helping to educate the motoring public. That’s what this program is all about.”

Based out of Joplin, Mo. Sitton services as an irregular route common and contract carrier throughout the United States. To learn more about driving opportunities with Sitton, call 1-800-533-4765 or visit www.sitm.com for an online application today.
