(Louisville, KY) April 12, 2005 – While attending the 2005 Mid-America Truck Show in Louisville, Ky., Mercer Independent Contractors John and Carol Wieczorek took a few moments to reflect on their 22-year driving career and decision that took them from just getting by to career satisfaction.
“I have been driving for 22 years, the last two at Mercer,
and my only regret is that I didn’t decide to come to Mercer
all those years ago,” says John. “The transition was
easy and they truly understand what the independent contractor
wants and needs.”
According to John, the company, which is 100 percent owner
operator, supports his business without limiting his
independence. “They treat us wonderfully,” he says.
“I can do what I want to do. If I need to turn down a load,
there’s no problem. If I ask for a load, they find one.
It’s all about focusing on each owner operator.”
John, who is occasionally joined by his wife Carol, runs all 48 states and Canada. From Perry, Mo., the Wiecsoreks’ schedule accommodates family time with their 14-year-old son Jason.
John says Mercer emphasizes to owner operators that they work with the company, not for it. “Everyone’s part of the family,” he says. “They know us, know our family, make us feel like we’re an important part of the team. You can’t beat that.”
