Millis Transfer knows a thing or two about extraordinary drivers. At the company’s recent Annual Safety Banquet, a total of 335 drivers were awarded for safe driving in addition to 3 drivers being named Driver of the Year.
The company held the Safety Banquet on March 20, 2004 at the Quilted Bear in Germantown, WI. On hand to celebrate with the drivers, were members of management, dispatch and customer service. An amazing $983,619 was awarded in safety bonus checks, averaging out to $2,936.17 per each honored driver. In addition, door prizes that included clothing, tools, cash and trips to Florida were handed out.
There were three categories for the distinguished Driver of the Year Award. The following drivers were named: Scott Hewitt of Fort Wayne, IN, Overall Driver of the Year; J.Edward Petty of Calhoun GA, Dedicated Driver of the Year and Harold D. Brown of Warner Robins, GA, Regional Driver of the Year. All three drivers have performed exceptionally well on the roads and shown above average commitment and service to the company.
Hewitt has been with Millis for almost 10 years and says the best thing about driving for them is the people. He says the supportive staff and personnel are above all other things. “They are all good people who treat you with respect, and the equipment and pay have to be the best in the industry.” As for the future, this Overall Driver of the Year has his feet planted firmly in his Millis truck. “Without a doubt, I hope to finish my driving career right here at Millis!” In his spare time, Hewitt enjoys spending time with his daughter and parents, and cruising around in his Camaro.
Petty started his truck diving career at Millis and has been there ever since. He chose Millis because they helped him get his CDL license and offered him a dedicated run that allowed him to be home more often. In fact, home time is what Petty loves the most about the company. In addition, he appreciates the job stability, along with great pay and benefits. Naturally, this Dedicated Driver of the Year enjoys spending all of his free time at home with family.
Brown has been with Millis Transfer for 7 1/2 years. When he originally started his career in trucking he spent a lot of time job hopping. After joining Millis, he realized he had discovered the company that had everything he was looking for – respect, good miles, good pay and home time. Years later, he’s still satisfied with the choice he made. “I’m able to plan for retirement now. Also, the management is the best I’ve worked with, there is respect from them and for them.” When not on the road, Brown enjoys hockey games with his kids and going to the movies and dinner with his wife.
