Buddy receives $100,000 gift, its largest donation to date.
Waupaca, WI: Trucker Buddy International just announced it is the recipient of a $100,000 gift given on behalf of J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. (www.jjkeller.com). The gift, to be presented over a three-year period, was made through the John J. and Ethel D. Fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Inc.
Trucker Buddy, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to helping educate and mentor schoolchildren via pen-pal relationships between students and professional truck drivers. Each week, nearly 4,000 drivers share news about their travels with their assigned class, which in turn, helps students develop skills in reading, writing, geography and mathematics … and appreciate the work done by professional drivers.
Commenting on the donation, J. J. Keller Executive Vice President and COO, James J. Keller said, “The trucking industry is so very important to our nation. It is good to see Trucker Buddy educating school children so they can better understand and respect the trucking profession. We are proud to be a sponsor.”
The donation will be used to pair up more drivers with more classes, develop a new curriculum guide to assist in the interaction between the drivers and students, and publish a book, “Big Rigs, Big Hearts.” The book will feature stories about the heartwarming rapport Trucker Buddy drivers have with the students in the program.
“This gift represents the largest donation commitment Trucker Buddy has ever received,” said Ellen Voie, Trucker Buddy’s Executive Director. “With this financial assistance we will be able to expand our program to reach more classes and will be able to enhance the relationship between drivers and students with the creation of a new curriculum guide.”
“Not only will children learn to appreciate the importance
of the trucking industry as they study math, geography and letter
writing, but they will also discover that professional drivers are
big-hearted, caring men and women,” added Voie.
