Scranton, Penn -- Sheryl Youngblood, Ph.D. (Trucker Doc), host of the KnightTime Radio Show, announced that truckers and other groups are planning the 2nd Annual Highway Interdependence Day Celebration to be held on September 10th, 2005.
On this day, truckers reach out to the public to dispel some of the prejudices against them and to celebrate the interdependence of motorists, truckers, law enforcement and others for highway safety and economic growth. “The celebration is a mix of many activities that highlight the importance of what we all bring to the highway,” said Sheryl Youngblood. “We have something for everyone: tractor trailer rides, show trucks, PennDot and State Police inspection demonstrations, National Guard vehicles tours, cut and rescue demonstrations, entertainment, drunk goggles, bicycle licenses, games, prizes and much more.
Youngblood added that “for weeks after last year’s celebration, people told me how much they and their children enjoyed the day. I was especially happy that many people told me that they never knew truck drivers could be so funny.”
More trucking companies are involved this year, and more events are planned. For example, there will be antique fire truck rides and many more demonstrations, such as truck recovery and emergency driving techniques. Even the FBI will be a part of the activities.
Trucking companies are encouraged to participate in the Celebration. They can bring a truck, conduct a demonstration or simply sponsor a game with their company’s merchandise as prizes. “Last year, people loved playing the ring toss game and winning company t-shirts, hats and other items, said Youngblood, “so we want to add more games this year, and we need companies to help.”
The Highway Interdependence Day Celebration will be held at the Lackawanna County, Stadium in Moosic, PA, Highway 81, exit 182 on Saturday, September 10th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mark your calendar and plan to attend this free, fun-filled family event.
