Transport America Recognizes 20 Years of Excellent Drivers

Transport America is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the trucking industry. Due to the company’s stability and growth over the years, many of its company drivers and owner-operators have been with Transport America since the beginning.

“As a matter of fact, 35 company drivers and owner-operators have either worked for Transport America or its acquired companies for 18 years or more,” said Steve Sichterman, Human Resources Director. “We are pleased that these drivers have remained so loyal to the company. They are what makes Transport America great and we believe it is important to honor them for their contributions.”

Long-term company drivers include Lars Duckstad, who started in 1971 and Gary Glass, who has been employed since 1982. The following employees started with Trasnport America in 1985: Gary Deklotz, Frederick Lerch, Roger Williams, Kenneth Staff, David Hanson, Peter Clemmerson, Samuel Tetrick, and Jerry Lee Butts. Ival Smith, Merlyn Timm, and John Hultgren were hired in 1986.

Long-term owner-operators include Robert Moyer (1972), Victor Schiefert (1973), Robert Fritz (1978), David Grundmeier (1979), Ronald Ramsrud (1979), Einar Brastad (1980), Gery Schonhardt (1981), David Schumacher (1983), and Dennis McGee (1984). Andrew Mellor, William Fenske, Thomas John Tracey, and Melvin Roering have been working with Transport American since 1985. The following have been contracting with the company since 1986: Leonard Litzau, James Knisley, Charles Kucera, Charles Martin, Rodger Wood, Richard Bjorklund, David Peterson, Brian Tamm, and William Foskett.

Jim Aronson founded Transport America with six leased tractors and one customer. The company went public on the NASDAQ just 10 years later, and in 1999, the carrier was named one of the 200 fastest growing companies by Forbes magazine.
