DANNY O’QUINN, JR. GETS BEST START AND FINISH OF THE SEASON AT NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Barr-Nunn Ford Fusion

Barr Nunn Trucking
NASHVILLE, TN (June 10, 2006) - Danny O’Quinn, Jr. knew when he came to Nashville that he had a good chance at a great finish. At his first visit to the track back in April, O’Quinn, Jr. qualified 3rd and finished the race in 14th position. It was the No. 50 Barr-Nunn team’s goal to beat that the second time around.

He did just that by qualifying 2nd on Saturday afternoon just behind teammate and fellow rookie Todd Kluever. The last time that two rookies started on the front row was in Kentucky in 2005. It was Carl Edwards and fellow rookie Jon Wood.

With a prime starting position and full support from team and sponsor O’Quinn, Jr. headed off pit road for the start of the Federated Auto Parts 300 at 7:15pm CST. When the green flag waved, O’Quinn, Jr. fell back a few positions, but after about 20 laps told his team that “the car is real good.”

So good, that during the first pit stop of the night for the No. 50 team on lap 35, O’Quinn, Jr. got fresh tires and fuel, but no adjustments were necessary.

However, as the sun went down and the track cooled, the No. 50 Barr-Nunn Ford began to tighten up.

While running 12th on lap 99, O’Quinn, Jr. headed down pit road for his second pit stop of the night. The order was for 4 tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. The stop could have spelled disaster for the No. 50 Barr-Nunn team after a member of the No. 2 team ran into the pit stall chasing a runaway tire during the stop. Luckily, the near collision was a miss and O’Quinn, Jr. made it back out on the track gaining a position.

As the night continued O’Quinn, Jr. was careful to make his move at the right time and gradually made his way from his lowest running position of the night, 16th on lap 134, to 10th on lap 205, which is where he finished the last 20 laps of the race.

“I am real happy with our performance today,” said O’Quinn, Jr. “We qualified second and started out running real good. The car got pretty tight there and we fell back during the middle part of the race. We just kept freeing it up and tried to work our way up through there. Finally during the last stop we got it free enough where I could race a little bit. I kind of wish we were one stop ahead of ourselves on adjustments. I think if we were, we would have been right there, but we’ll take it. That’s our first top-10 of the year and we’re top rookie of the race so we’ll chalk that up to a good night.”

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. will compete next in the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway next Saturday June 17th. It will be at 7:30pm on FX.
