Roswell, GA—The publishers of Over the Road and Pro Trucker magazines today announced the debut of Inside Trucking, the first and only online newsletter to focus on the crucial trucking industry issues of driver recruitment and retention. The kickoff issue of Inside Trucking will be sent to hundreds of trucking industry personnel later this month.
Aimed at trucking executives, driver safety and recruiting directors, fleet owners and anyone else with an interest in driver recruitment and retention, Inside Trucking will be freely distributed and offer informative articles and practical advice from leading experts in the field.
To register for a free subscription to Inside Trucking, visit the Over the Road/Pro Trucker Web site at www.otrprotrucker.com. Carrier executives, recruiting directors and fleet owners are encouraged to pass along the free offer to their staff and begin establishing a successful, cost-effective “retention culture” at their company.
“Inside Trucking is here for one reason: to help you maximize the driver recruiting and retention efforts at your motor carrier,” explains Marvin Shefsky, publisher of Over the Road and Pro Trucker magazines. “This means better numbers, greater efficiency and, most importantly, cost-effective results.
“Over the Road and Pro Trucker magazines have been generating leads that deliver new hires to advertisers for nearly 25 years,” he continues. “You’ve heard us say, ‘We'll bring the drivers to your front door, but you, the carrier, must shut the back door.’ Shutting that door requires the establishment of an active, company-wide ‘retention culture.’ Helping you get there from here is what Inside Trucking is all about. Let's get started!”
In an industry where annual driver turnover rates routinely exceed 100 percent at many carriers and the cost to hire and train a single replacement can run up to several thousand dollars, driver retention is obviously a crucial component of any company's success. Yet, up to now, the subject has never received the attention it deserves. Inside Trucking plans to change that.
Inside Trucking's impressive line-up of contributing experts includes Ray Haight, president and chief operating officer of MacKinnon Transport, Inc.; Gregory Mechler, founder and president of The Human Advantage, Inc.; Kelly Anderson, founder and president of Impact Transportation Solutions, Inc. and David Williams, owner of Red Dart, LLC. Other contributing experts to Inside Trucking will be announced in the near future.
Ray Haight, a second-generation trucker, is president and chief operating officer of MacKinnon Transport Inc in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Known as the "guru of driver retention" because of MacKinnon's remarkably low driver turnover rate, Haight sits on the Board of Directors for Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and is co-chair of the Labor and Human Resources Committee of the TCA. He also serves as chairman of the Professional Truck Drivers Institute (PTDI).
Gregory Mechler, an expert in the field of organizational behavior and management systems, has 26 years of management and consulting experience with large and small organizations nationwide, mostly in the trucking industry. Before launching The Human Advantage, an independent consulting firm, Mechler held executive posts with Schneider National, Fleetline, Inc. and Venture Transport, Inc. (where he served as president).
Kelly Anderson, a former over-the-road professional, spent 15 years in the transportation industry before establishing Impact Transportation Solutions. Impact Transportation Solutions is solely dedicated to helping trucking companies deal with the varied and difficult tasks facing them today. Anderson's background is as diverse as the issues facing trucking companies today.
David Williams is an advertising professional with more than 15 years of experience in the trucking industry. David has worked at ad agencies including Doyle Dane Bernbach and Omnicom Group, where he served on large national accounts such as the Coca Cola Company, Union Carbide Corporation and Siemens AG. Now as owner of Red Dart, LLC, an independent creative consulting firm, he assists motor carriers in the preparation of effective advertising materials for use in print and digital media.
