Decker’s Commitment to Safety Earns Award

West Des Moines. Iowa — Decker Truck Line, Inc., received recognition at Iowa Motor Truck Association’s “Best of the Best” awards luncheon held September 20, 2006, in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Decker Truck Line, Inc. received top honors for its outstanding safety record in Iowa during 2005-2006 in the General Commodities Division (over 10 million miles). Leo Shimon, Director of Safety, accepted the award on behalf of the truck line at the Iowa Motor Truck Association’s Annual Management Conference in West Des Moines. As an award winner, the company has demonstrated its continued dedication to safety with accident-free miles, excellent safety ratings and an ongoing commitment within the company to make safety a top priority. Through this annual contest, trucking companies are recognized for their safety efforts in the state of Iowa. The number of accident-free miles driven, overall safety ratings and established safety programs within the company are all considered in the contest judging criteria. The Iowa Motor Truck Association, Iowa Council of Safety Management, Midwest Wheel Companies, and Great West Casualty Company, in cooperation with the American Trucking Association, sponsor the contest to promote safety in the state of Iowa.

“The objective of this annual safety contest is to highlight and showcase the trucking companies in the State of Iowa that have demonstrated the commitment needed to operate at the highest level of safety at all times. These winners are setting the standard and are the recognized leaders within the trucking industry in Iowa when it comes to safety,” said IMTA President, R. Scott Weiser.

This commitment to safety has continued to pay off and the statistics continue to support this theory. Over the past ten years there has been a 34% drop in the large truck fatal crash rate while the miles driven by large trucks has increased by 42%. The 1990s were the safest decade ever as far as the trucking industry was concerned and this trend has continued into the 21st century as well.

“Safety is a top priority for the trucking industry and the 2006 award winners are to be congratulated and recognized for their dedication to making safety a top priority. It takes a great deal of energy, effort and determination to possess the safety records that these companies possess. We are deeply honored to have these award winners moving freight here in Iowa and throughout the nation,” said Murry Fitzer, IMTA Chairman of the Board.

Decker Truck Line, Inc. also received a Company Fleet Maintenance Award, accepted by Malaki Bulten, Manager of Maintenance Operations and Fleet Equipment. The Company Fleet Maintenance Award recognizes and showcases the fleets that are demonstrating a consistent commitment and ongoing dedication to maintenance and safety in their operation. Jeff Gallogly, Director of Fleet Maintenance, received recognition for Fleet Maintenance Individual. The Fleet Maintenance Individual contest recognizes maintenance professionals for their commitment to maintaining high standards for their maintenance operation.

Mark Phillips and Dave Bush, both Independent Contractors for Decker Truck Line, Inc. received recognition for being members of Iowa’s 2006 Road Team. The Iowa Road Team consists of six professional truck drivers with more than 10 million accident-free miles. They earned their way onto the team for their outstanding safety records and how they finished in their respective divisions at the annual State Truck Driving Championships.
