MONDOVI, Wis. – Marten Transport, Ltd. is increasing its settlement package for contractors. The company has developed an innovative new mileage scale that rewards contractors with variable rates based on length of haul. This new scale will make shorter hauls, which are often turned down by contractors, more attractive and considerably more profi table for them to accept.
“Our contractors have played an important role in our success, so we are very excited to be able to offer them this new package,” said Marten Chief Operations Offi cer, Bob Smith. “The trucking business has become increasingly more volatile. We feel the new variable pay scale will help independent contractors be more profitable.”
As of November 1, 2005, Marten will allot $.94 per mile for loads of 400 miles or less. For loads between 401 and 800 miles, the rate will be $.90 per mile. Marten will offer $.87 mile for loads from 801 to 1,200 miles. Loads of 1,201 to 1,600 miles will earn contractors $.86 per mile. Any load hauled more than 1,600 miles will earn a rate of $.85 per mile. Marten will also compensate contractors $.85 per mile for empty (or unloaded) miles.
“It has always been our philosophy to reward expectations of increased performance,” said Marten President and CEO Randy Marten. “We are aware of the increased demands made on independent contractors, so we have re-designed our settlement schedule to more accurately reflect the demands of varying lengths of hauls.”
In addition to the increase in settlement rates per mile, Marten will continue to provide contractors with its industry-leading support package. The company offers contractors free on-board satellite units, paid base plates, permits, tolls, loading and unloading, state fuel and mileage taxes and the leading fuel surcharge program in the industry.
